Damilola Ayoola | VISUAL ARTIST
B. 2003, San Bernardino, CA
Raised on the countryside of Maryland's Eastern Shore, Damilola intimately experienced the traditions and influences of past generations, shaping his understanding of rural Black culture. Damilola offers a fresh perspective in photography—moving beyond conventional narratives about the Black American experience. Instead, he focuses his lens on the nuanced and often overlooked realm of rural Black communities, highlighting stories that rarely appear in mainstream media.
Upon relocating to Atlanta, Damilola observed striking contrasts—not only in the environment but also in the ways people serve their communities and foster connections. These differences inspire thoughtful questions about the Black American experience, which are central themes in his work.
